MARIALISA CALTA is a freelance writer, nationally syndicated food columnist and public relations specialist.

Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, Gourmet,The Wall Street Journal, Food and Wine, Smithsonian, People, Travel and Leisure, The Boston Globe, The Toronto Globe and Mail and Women’s Day. Since 1992, her weekly column on food, currently entitled "Stir It Up!" has been appearing in 500 newspapers across the country, first by the United Media Syndicate and currently by Andrews McMeel Universal. She is a past winner of the Bert Greene Award for Food Journalism given by the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

She is the author of Barbarians at the Plate: Taming and Feeding the Modern American Family (Perigee Books, 2005) and co-author, with Jimmy and Maya Kennedy, of River Run Cookbook (HarperCollins, 2001). Marialisa worked with NBC weatherman Al Roker to  develop and test recipes for Al Roker’s Big Bad Book of Barbecue (Scribner, 2002) and Al Roker's Hassle-Free Holiday Cookbook (Scribner 2007). 

For five years she handled publicity and some marketing for Circus Smirkus, the Vermont-based, traveling youth circus.

She also worked as a reporter for The Providence Journal, The (Barre, VT) Times Argus, The Seattle Sun and the Associated Press.

Marialisa is a native of Tenafly, NJ. She holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. She lives in Calais, Vermont.
